Yep, good old New Zealand. The only country in the world where you can go for a hike and enjoy the lovely “clean and green” scenery, the pristine mountains and beautiful lakes, while simultaneously being rained on by 1080 poison pellets.

As an immigrant, that was really driven home to me when my hobby club burned tons of trash (including old refrigerators!) in a big hole out back from the hut.

Oh, and the fact that there is NO PLACE TO DROP OFF SPENT BATTERIES! I felt like a criminal the first couple times I threw these toxic bombs in the household trash. But there just seems nowhere to give them back for recycling or at least safe dumping.

Yeah we’re pretty much unspoiled simply because we’re not very populated. Typical kiwis (bogan or not) aren’t much better than typical Americans in attitudes towards conservation and lifestyle.
